Our Theo Chocolate collab
We recently had the opportunity to consult with Seattle company Theo Chocolate on the redesign of its holiday packaging.
Our staff gave feedback to the Theo Chocolate design team on how to represent people with visible physical disabilities and their assistive devices.
“From the outset, it was important that the scenes and details in the illustrations be diverse and relatable,” said Emily Arnold of Theo Chocolate.
“Disability Empowerment Center provided wonderful suggestions and feedback to help ensure this aspect of the illustrations was as accurate as possible, while balancing the limitations of the art style and product scale.
The final packaging depicts a winter cityscape, featuring scenes and elements inspired by the products’ flavors. The illustrations show people gathering, celebrating, and decorating their homes – creating the light, magic and cheer of the holiday season.
“From the individual human figures and the seasonal activities they’re partaking in, to the pets, buildings and shops - we hope that people interacting with the packaging will see something of themselves or their favorite winter traditions reflected in it,” Emily said.
We are grateful for the chance to work with this fantastic local company. And kudos to Theo Chocolate for putting disability representation at the forefront.
